About the Memorial

A community-built tribute to those who served.

All of the work we do is dedicated to those from the Orion, Michigan community who bravely served this country. It’s our goal to bring awareness to veterans living in our community and to raise them up as a whole. Our efforts bring financial and emotional aid to veterans — while thanking them for their service.

This memorial is not about war, it’s about people and paying tribute to all the military service personnel who honorably served their country. We don’t glorify war, we glorify the spirit of the men and women that fought for this great country. We embrace all veterans and their family members in tribute.

How the Memorial Came to Be

In June of 1994, on the 50th anniversary of D-Day, a group of interested citizens met at Children’s Park in the Village of Lake Orion and announced their plan to create the Memorial. A site search for a permanent home was undertaken alongside the task of raising the funds to begin construction — work that ultimately spanned multiple phases over more than 20 years.

Each phase and its accomplishments have been made a reality by the generous monetary donations and gifts-in-kind of patriotic members of the community — and of supporters outside our community who share the same love for our military and country. The Memorial honors the more than one million men and women who lost their lives defending America, from the Revolution to the global war on terrorism.
